Add/Remove buttons on a toolbar through code

Hello,

Does anybody know how to set which buttons appear on a toolbar through code? As in, the effect achieved by using Add/Remove Buttons? ToolbarItemBase has Visible and HiddenFromCurrentView properties but both are read-only. Would greatly appreciate any help on this matter.

This is what the Visible property is for. It should not be read-only.
